A new 5K aimed at people recovering from addiction, mental health struggles, trauma and grief makes its first run in Little Elm on Saturday, Oct. 17, and the field is close to full.
Running 4 Renewal will be held near Beard Park at 310 E. Eldorado Parkway. The registration page on Race Roster lists an 8 a.m. start, while the event listing on the Lakefront at Little Elm website blocks out the morning from 7 to 10 a.m., so runners should confirm the start with organizers. The Lakefront listing advises arriving at least 30 minutes early.
Two distances, limited spots
The morning offers a 5K and a 1-mile family run and walk. Entry is $50 for the 5K and $40 for the mile, plus processing fees. As of Sunday, Race Roster showed 30 places left in the 5K and 25 in the family mile. Registration stays open through race day or until spots run out.
Only the 5K will be chip-timed, with official results posted afterward. Strollers and pets are not allowed on the 5K course, though leashed pets and strollers are welcome in the Beard Park event area. Organizers say food vendors and live music will follow the race.
Where the money goes
Proceeds benefit Running for Renewal, a nonprofit led by executive director Anthony Ysasaga that describes its mission as "Restoring Hope. Renewing Purpose." Its fundraising page sets a $40,000 goal; about $245 had been raised as of Sunday.
