Rakell Decides It

Rickard Rakell scored the decisive shootout goal, lifting the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena. The shootout ended 3-2 in Pittsburgh’s favor after the teams finished regulation and overtime tied 1-1.

Scoreless Start

Neither team scored in the first period, and the second also ended without a goal. The score remained 0-0 entering the third, where both regulation goals were scored.

Pittsburgh struck first in the third period. Connor Dewar put the Penguins ahead with a backhand goal, assisted by Blake Lizotte. Dallas answered when Tyler Seguin tied the game with a tip-in, with Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen credited with assists.

Shootout Sequence

The third-period exchange sent the game to overtime, but the extra period was scoreless. Pittsburgh then took the lead in the shootout when Ben Kindel scored on a wrist shot. Sidney Crosby followed with another wrist shot for the Penguins.

Seguin kept Dallas in the contest by scoring on a wrist shot, and Wyatt Johnston also converted for the Stars. Rakell then finished the sequence with a wrist shot, giving Pittsburgh the shootout edge and the 2-1 final score.

Dewar led Pittsburgh with one goal, while Lizotte recorded an assist. Seguin finished with Dallas’ lone goal, and Heiskanen had an assist.

Records

The Penguins moved to 3-2-1 with seven points after the victory. The Stars are 2-2-1 with five points. The game was played before an attendance of 18,192.
