Kroger’s store-branded credit card is being discontinued, a move that will also end a fuel discount for current cardholders. U.S. Bank announced on July 29 that holders of the Kroger World Elite Mastercard will be transitioned to a U.S. Bank Smartly Visa card.
The bank stated that the conversion process is expected to be completed this fall and that affected customers should have already received communications regarding the change.
Kroger confirmed on its website that its credit card partnership with U.S. Bank is ending. The company noted that while customers’ Kroger loyalty accounts will remain active, the 5-cent-per-gallon savings at Kroger Fuel Centers tied to the World Elite Mastercard will cease once an individual’s account is converted or closed.
In a statement, Kroger said it recognizes questions about future payment options and that it continuously evaluates products and programs to enhance the shopping experience, though it has no further announcements to share at this time.
According to Nerdwallet, the card stopped accepting new applicants in May 2026. The card had previously offered 5% cash back on eligible mobile wallet purchases. Kroger operates 1,230 grocery stores across 16 states, including Texas, Alabama, and Georgia.
