A new Hobby Lobby location is scheduled to open on Sept. 14 at the Airport Center shopping complex in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, according to a company spokesperson.

The retailer will occupy an updated unit at 916 Airport Center Drive. This space was previously home to Christmas Tree Shops, which closed its doors in 2023. The new store is part of the national chain’s expansion into the Lehigh Valley region.

“We are looking forward to joining the Allentown community,” a Hobby Lobby spokesperson told 69 News regarding the upcoming opening.

Hobby Lobby operates more than 1,000 stores nationwide from its headquarters in Oklahoma City. Each location stocks over 80,000 items, including arts and crafts supplies, home decor, floral arrangements, fabric, needlework, custom framing services, baskets, kitchen and bath accessories, jewelry-making materials, scrapbooking products, wedding and party supplies, and seasonal merchandise.

Regular operating hours for the new store will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The company was founded more than five decades ago after David and Barbara Green used a $600 loan to create miniature picture frames at home in 1970. They opened their first 300-square-foot retail location in Oklahoma City two years later.

The Hanover Township site joins other nearby Hobby Lobby locations in Trexton on Hamilton Boulevard, Lower Nazareth Township on the Easton Nazareth Highway, and Pohatcong Township on Route 22.

At the Airport Center, Hobby Lobby follows recent tenant changes. Chicken Salad Chick opened its first Pennsylvania location earlier this month in a renovated unit that previously housed Buff City Soap. The shopping center also lost On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina and Wren Kitchens earlier this year.

Opened in 2009, the Airport Center hosts more than two dozen businesses. Major tenants include Sam’s Club, Target, Old Navy, Ulta Beauty, DSW, Famous Footwear, Ross, Five Below, and Five Guys. Other recent additions to the complex include Club Pilates, Rally House, and Kinya.

Further details regarding specific job openings or grand opening events were not provided.

Hobby Lobby employs about 33 people in Little Elm, according to local government records.
