Kroger has opened a new supermarket location in Little Elm, Texas, marking the latest addition to the company's 2026 expansion plans. The store, which opened in late July, is part of a broader push to increase new-store construction by approximately 30% this year.
The company is investing billions of dollars in new locations and remodels across multiple states, following a period of limited growth during its previous merger attempts.
In the Dallas-Fort Worth region, Kroger is expanding its presence in North Texas communities experiencing population growth. Alongside the newly opened Little Elm store, construction is currently underway in Sendera Ranch and Anna. These additions join a store that opened in the region in late 2025, reflecting the chain's focus on areas with anticipated demand for grocery services.
The new locations are primarily designed as Marketplace stores, a format that includes a full supermarket alongside general merchandise such as clothing, home goods, and toys. This strategy aims to create larger, one-stop shopping destinations. In Indiana, Kroger is opening new Marketplace locations in Crawfordsville, Zionsville, and Noblesville.
The Crawfordsville project is valued at $38 million, part of a $200 million investment in new construction and upgrades across the state in 2026.
Kroger is also expanding in its home state of Ohio, where two new stores are planned for Delaware and Canal Winchester. These locations are expected to open in the autumn. Additionally, the company is undertaking 15 remodels in Ohio and West Virginia, with renovations scheduled for locations in cities including Dublin, Toledo, and Wheeling.
