Murakami’s Historic Night
Austin Murakami delivered a vintage offensive performance, launching three home runs and driving in six runs to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 12-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Sunday at Rate Field. The slugger’s power display was the decisive factor in the game, as he connected for long balls in the first, sixth, and eighth innings.
Murakami opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a 385-foot home run to left field that also scored Nick Antonacci, giving Chicago a 2-1 lead. He extended his output in the sixth inning with another two-run shot, this time a 393-foot homer to left that again included Antonacci on the bases.
His third and final home run of the night came in the eighth inning, a 398-foot drive to right center that provided a final margin of nine runs.
Scoring Summary
The White Sox jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the first inning, thanks to home runs by Andrés Chourio and Murakami. The Astros tied the game 2-2 in the third inning when Chourio hit a 394-foot home run to right-center field. However, Chicago regained the lead in the same frame when Chourio’s grounder to second allowed Romo to score.
The White Sox offense exploded in the seventh inning, scoring six runs in the frame. Murakami’s single to center field allowed Romo and Perez to score, followed by a single from Benintendi that brought Murakami home. In the eighth, Perez hit a two-run homer to left field to make it 11-3, before Murakami’s third home run capped the scoring.
