Series Decided

The Chicago White Sox concluded their American League Wild Card series with a decisive 7-3 victory over the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on Wednesday. The result secured a 2-0 series sweep for Chicago, advancing them to the next round while eliminating Houston from postseason play.

Chicago established control early, loading the bases in the first inning before capitalizing on defensive mistakes and timely hitting. Teel singled to right field to score Antonacci, followed by Benintendi’s single that scored Teel. The inning continued when Vargas crossed home plate after a throwing error by center fielder Spence, extending the lead.

Peters added another run with a single to right, making it 4-0 before Houston responded.

Pitching Performance

Houston’s starting pitcher Hunter Brown struggled significantly, allowing three earned runs on five hits in just 0.2 innings pitched. He walked one batter and struck out two before being removed from the game. AJ Blubaugh entered to pitch 1.1 innings without allowing a hit or run, striking out two batters.

Peter Lambert pitched 3.0 innings for Houston, giving up two earned runs on zero hits while walking two and recording two strikeouts. Bryan Abreu relieved him, throwing 2.7 innings with one hit allowed, one earned run, one walk, and six strikeouts. Josh Hader closed out the Astros' effort in 1.3 innings, surrendering two hits but no earned runs, striking out one batter.

For Chicago, Sean Burke started the game, pitching four innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and zero walks. Huascar Brazoban contributed 0.3 innings, giving up one hit with zero earned runs and one strikeout. Anthony Kay pitched 0.7 innings without allowing a hit or run, walking one batter to earn the win (1-0).

Jordan Hicks threw two scoreless innings, striking out three batters with no hits or walks allowed. Erick Fedde closed the game with two perfect innings, recording three strikeouts against zero hits and zero walks.

Final Score and Records

Houston scored in the fourth inning when Altuve homered to left field for 353 feet. In the sixth, Meidroth hit a 390-foot home run to left, driving in Acuña and Peters to make it 7-3. Smith had earlier homered to left (440 feet) in the second inning for Houston’s other score. Peña also homered to left center (395 feet) in the first inning.

The final attendance was 36,015. With the loss, Houston finished the regular season at 81-81. Chicago improved its record to 84-78.
