Bazzana’s Historic Offensive Output
Travis Bazzana delivered a standout performance on Saturday, driving in all of Cleveland’s runs through a trio of home runs. The Cleveland Guardians utilized Bazzana’s power to secure an 8-1 victory over the Houston Astros at Daikin Park, improving their record to 41-36. The loss dropped the Houston Astros to 36-42.
Bazzana opened the scoring in the first inning with a 382-foot home run to right center, giving Cleveland a 1-0 lead. He expanded his advantage in the third inning by launching a 388-foot shot to right field that also drove in Bazzana, pushing the score to 3-1. The offensive explosion continued in the fifth inning when Bazzana hit his third home run of the game, a 406-foot blast to right center that brought home Kwan and Bailey to make it 6-1. He added a single in the seventh inning that scored Bailey, and later advanced to second base as Manzardo’s single scored Halpin, finalizing the 8-1 tally.
Pitching Duel and Defensive Effort
Cleveland’s pitching staff effectively neutralized the Astros' lineup, with Joey Cantillo earning the win. Cantillo pitched eight innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters. His performance was supported by Matt Festa, who closed out the game with a scoreless inning, recording two strikeouts against one hit.
Houston’s starting pitcher, Spencer Arrighetti, struggled to contain the Guardians' offense. Arrighetti pitched six innings but allowed six hits and six earned runs, taking the loss and falling to 7-3 on the season. The Astros’ bullpen attempted to stabilize the game, with Nate Pearson pitching one inning and allowing two earned runs on four hits. AJ Blubaugh and Bryan Abreu each pitched one scoreless inning, with Blubaugh striking out three batters and Abreu facing the minimum.
