Second-Inning Surge Defines Contest
The Los Angeles Angels established control of their Wednesday matchup against the Houston Astros with a decisive offensive explosion in the second inning. After trading early runs in the first, the home team erupted for five unanswered markers to build an insurmountable lead.
The scoring began in the top of the first when the Astros took a 1-0 advantage. Schanuel reached base on a hit-by-pitch, allowing Neto to score. The next play saw Meckler score on a fielder's choice to shortstop, extending the Houston lead to 2-0.
The momentum shifted dramatically in the second inning. Meckler doubled to left field, driving in two runs to tie the game at 2-2. Adell followed with another double to left, scoring Meckler and Trout to give the Angels a 4-2 advantage. Peraza then grounded out to shortstop, allowing Adell to score and push the lead to 5-2.
Pitching Performance Seals Victory
Walbert Urena earned the win for Los Angeles, pitching five innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed three hits and walked five batters while striking out seven. Urena’s performance was supported by a bullpen that kept the Astros off the scoreboard after the first inning.
Brent Suter pitched two innings, allowing one earned run on two hits. Drew Pomeranz recorded the final out of the seventh inning, and Kirby Yates closed out the game with a perfect eighth, striking out two batters.
