Houston takes control
Patrick Overmyer's fourth touchdown reception put Houston ahead 35-9 in the third quarter, and the Cougars went on to defeat Kansas State 35-16 on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026. The visiting Cougars scored on four touchdown passes from Conner Weigman to Overmyer, including the 2-yard play that gave Houston its 26-point lead.
Houston led 7-3 after the first quarter at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, with Overmyer scoring on a 1-yard pass from Weigman before Kansas State's Luis Rodriguez answered with a 29-yard field goal. The Cougars added two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-3 lead at halftime. Overmyer caught a 2-yard scoring pass, and Makhi Hughes scored on a 13-yard run.
Third-quarter surge
Houston added 14 points in the third quarter. Overmyer opened the second half's scoring with an 8-yard touchdown catch from Weigman for a 28-3 lead. Kansas State answered with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Avery Johnson to Garrett Oakley, but its two-point pass attempt failed, leaving the score 28-9. Overmyer then caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Weigman with 48 seconds left in the quarter.
Kansas State scored the only points of the fourth quarter when Jaron Tibbs caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Johnson, with Rodriguez adding the kick. The Wildcats finished with a 7-0 edge in the final period, but Houston's 35-9 lead after three quarters held up.
