Little Elm ISD earned the top grade, A for "Superior Achievement," in the state's latest school finance ratings, scoring 94 out of a possible 100 points.
The district has posted notice of a public meeting to go over the rating at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, in the boardroom of the administration building at 400 Lobo Lane.
How the grade was set
The Texas Education Agency's Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, known as FIRST, scores districts on 21 indicators drawn from their audited financial reports. The 2025-26 ratings, published in August, are based on the 2024-25 school year. A district needs 70 points to pass, and 90 or more earns an A.
According to TEA's detail sheet for Little Elm ISD, the district received full points on cash on hand, its ratio of current assets to current liabilities, general fund revenue compared with spending, and how closely its budgeted revenue tracked actual revenue over three years.
It also cleared the yes-or-no checks, including an unmodified opinion from its outside auditor and on-time payments to the Teacher Retirement System and other agencies.
The six points it gave up came from two debt measures. The district earned 6 of 10 points on the ratio of long-term liabilities to total assets and 8 of 10 on the measure comparing future debt payments with the district's assessed property value.
