Aidan Curry delivered a dominant performance for the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders, recording 11 strikeouts over 5.2 innings in a recent victory against Midland. The outing marked the first time the 23-year-old pitcher has reached double-digit strikeouts in a single game during the current season. This start represents his sixth appearance for Frisco since being promoted from High-A Hub City just before the end of May.
The performance serves as a notable rebound for Curry, who struggled in his initial outing with the team. In his first start for Frisco on May 26 against Arkansas, he pitched only three innings, allowing six hits, seven earned runs, and four walks while surrendering a home run. That debut left him with a 21.00 earned run average for the team. However, he steadily improved throughout June, reducing the number of earned runs allowed in each subsequent start. He finished the month with a 2-1 record and a 5.14 ERA across five starts, striking out 34 batters while walking eight over 28 innings. Opposing hitters managed a .236 batting average against him.
Curry has demonstrated increased durability, pitching at least five innings in each of his last four starts. This marks a shift in how the organization utilizes him, as he previously had only two starts at High-A that lasted five or more innings. The extended outings suggest the Rangers are working to build his stamina as a starting pitcher. He enters his next start with a career minor league record of 19-19 and a 4.87 ERA, totaling 482 strikeouts and 192 walks in 382.2 innings.
The Ossining, New York, native has navigated a lengthy path through the Rangers system. He was signed out of Fordham Prep in New York City in 2020, shortly after the MLB draft was shortened to five rounds due to the pandemic. He did not play that year and began his professional career in 2021. This is his first assignment to Frisco after five years in the organization. Frisco is about 7 miles east of Little Elm. It remains unclear if Curry will be promoted to Triple-A Round Rock later this season, though the organization appears focused on his development at the Double-A level for the remainder of the year.
