Hebron secured a 24-21 victory over Little Elm in their District 5-6A season opener, played at Brian Brazil Stadium. The Hawks built a 14-0 lead in the first quarter but allowed Little Elm to score 21 consecutive points to take a 21-17 halftime advantage. Hebron regained the lead in the third quarter and held on for the win.
The game began with a quick strike by Hebron. Senior quarterback Brady Brock connected with Jevonyae Broussard for a 67-yard touchdown with 10:42 remaining in the first quarter. Less than two minutes later, Dylan Hatcher intercepted a pass and returned it 41 yards for a score, extending the lead to 14-0.
Little Elm responded with two long passes: Sash Suriya threw a 55-yard touchdown to Zaylen Mosley, and Chad Loughmiller found Jaylan Finnie for a 59-yard score. Beau Merriman kicked a 24-yard field goal to restore Hebron's lead, but Loughmiller ran in a 5-yard touchdown with 38 seconds left in the half to give Little Elm the 21-17 lead.
The third quarter shifted the momentum. Little Elm fumbled on their first possession, and Hebron recovered. Ridge Lias then threw a 10-yard touchdown to Broussard with 10:01 remaining, putting Hebron ahead 24-21.
The rest of the game was marked by penalties and missed opportunities. Little Elm extended a drive with penalties against Hebron but was stopped on fourth down. Hebron drove to the Little Elm 18 but faced a fourth-and-25 situation after penalties, and Merriman’s field goal attempt fell short as the quarter ended.
Hebron finished with a 326-257 advantage in total offense and 19 first downs compared to Little Elm’s 13. Broussard had 10 catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Brock completed 12 of 13 passes for 163 yards and added 66 rushing yards. Little Elm was limited to 53 rushing yards on 26 attempts.
