A 15-year-old girl is recovering at a hospital following an accidental shooting at a Little Elm home early Sunday morning, according to the Little Elm Police Department.
Officers responded to the 3400 block of Canyon Lake Drive around 5 a.m. after receiving a report of a firearm discharge. Preliminary investigations indicate the homeowner was away at the time, leaving their 16-year-old child at the residence. Several friends were present when the 16-year-old unintentionally fired a weapon, striking the 15-year-old girl.
The victim was transported to Plano Presbyterian Hospital for medical treatment. Police described the event as an isolated incident and stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Detectives processed the scene and conducted follow-up interviews, leading residents to expect an increased police presence in the neighborhood on Sunday morning. The Little Elm Police Department confirmed they have contacted both families and are providing support as the investigation continues.
