Joe Milton showcased his skills in the Dallas Cowboys' 34-13 victory against the Arizona Cardinals, solidifying his bid for the backup quarterback position. Milton completed 9 of 13 passes for 176 yards, highlighted by a 53-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Mingo and a 70-yard throw to Camden Brown, which set up his own rushing touchdown from one yard out.

The Cowboys established a commanding 24-6 lead by halftime, with Jaydon Blue contributing 75 rushing yards on 15 carries. Sam Howell, who started all 17 games for Washington in 2023, completed 7 of 10 passes for 65 yards in the second half but was intercepted in the end zone.

Coach Brian Schottenheimer praised Milton's performance but noted that the competition for the backup role is still ongoing, stating, "This is long from over." The Cowboys' defense also made an impact early in the game, with cornerback Shavon Revel intercepting a pass from Gardner Minshew, leading to an early touchdown.

Injuries affected both teams, as Cardinals safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson left the game with rib issues, while Cowboys safety Julius Wood exited with a concussion during the third quarter. Milton's performance continues to highlight his potential as he competes for a spot on the Cowboys' roster as training camp progresses.
