Tommy Castellanos has accounted for three touchdowns in Texas Tech's first two games, yet his place in the offense remains undecided. The veteran quarterback has taken select snaps alongside starter Will Hammond, producing both useful plays and turnovers.
Against Houston on Friday, Castellanos threw an interception on his first play while trying to throw the ball away, Red Raiders Wire reported. He later came back into the contest near the goal line and ran 3 yards for a touchdown. Coach Joey McGuire said afterward that Hammond continues to be the starter, while Texas Tech will keep using packages designed for Castellanos.
Castellanos joined the Red Raiders late in preseason camp as an emergency backup. Texas Tech added him after the transfer portal had closed and Brendan Sorsby's situation had ended. The report said Hammond is recovering from a torn ACL.
