As the Dallas Cowboys gear up for the 2026 NFL season, they have confirmed their roster cuts, retaining quarterback Joe Milton on the practice squad. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer shared his excitement about Milton's return, expressing that he is "elated" to have him back, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota.
Milton, selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 draft, demonstrated his strong arm during the preseason. Although he only appeared in one regular-season game with the Patriots, his potential garnered attention from both fans and coaches. In April 2025, he was traded to the Cowboys, where he gained experience by participating in four games without a start.
After being waived at the end of August, Milton chose to rejoin the Cowboys' practice squad, signaling his contentment with the team's trajectory. Schottenheimer and the coaching staff are pleased with Milton's choice to remain, believing he will continue to develop as a quarterback.
The Cowboys are set to begin their 2026 campaign on September 13 against the New York Giants, with quarterback Jaxson Dart leading the team.
