The Philadelphia Eagles have added running back Jaydon Blue to their practice squad following his release from the Dallas Cowboys. Blue, a former fifth-round pick from the University of Texas, was seen as a potential complementary player but struggled with maturity issues that limited his chances during his rookie year.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer noted that Blue was unlikely to return to the team's practice squad, which paved the way for his move to Philadelphia. In a corresponding decision, the Cowboys have brought in Emari Demercado, who previously played for the Arizona Cardinals.

Demercado, who is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 215 pounds, showcased his skills by averaging 6.5 yards per carry in Arizona.

Demercado caught the eye of Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams, who had coached him before. In his rookie season, Demercado averaged 4.9 yards per carry, improving to 9.3 yards per attempt in 2024. Over his three seasons with the Cardinals, he totaled 819 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 126 carries.

The Cowboys' running back lineup now features Malik Davis and Hunter Luepke, with Israel Abanikanda recalled to the practice squad. Meanwhile, the status of second-year back Phil Mafah is still unclear. The Cowboys will be monitoring Blue's performance with the Eagles, hoping he does not excel in a rival's colors.
