The NFL issued the fine after the game, as part of its standard procedures for preseason violations, despite no penalty being called during the match.
Davis is the only player from the Cowboys to receive a fine during the preseason. The largest fine in the league during this timeframe was given to Tytus Howard of the Cleveland Browns, who was penalized $12,537 for a similar incident in Week 1 of the preseason.
Currently in his second year of a two-year, $2.1 million contract, Davis has a base salary of $1.1 million for 2026. This fine amounts to roughly 0.6% of his earnings. The NFL contributes all collected fines to the Professional Athletes Foundation, which aids athletes in need and promotes health and safety initiatives in football.
Davis has been competing for the backup running back position against Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah throughout the offseason. Following roster decisions, Blue was released along with Mafah, allowing Davis to secure the backup position behind starting running back Javonte Williams.
