The Dallas Cowboys have added running back Tyler Goodson after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury requiring surgery, according to a report from sports.yahoo.com. The injury will end Davis’ season and leaves Dallas without his contributions on special teams. The report cited Houston television reporter Aaron Wilson as its source.
Goodson, 25, spent the last three seasons with Indianapolis. He appeared in 33 games, carrying 54 times for 264 yards, or 4.9 yards per attempt. He also played 304 special teams snaps over the previous two seasons.
The Colts released him before he attended Atlanta’s training camp. The Falcons then cut him, and after he cleared waivers, Atlanta placed him on its practice squad before Dallas signed him.
Goodson originally joined Green Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and was released before the Colts picked him up. He finished his Iowa career with 1,151 rushing yards and six touchdowns, earned All-Big Ten recognition and ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash.
In Dallas’ game against the Giants, Emari Demercado had two carries for 7 yards behind Javonte Williams, who handled 12 of the team’s 18 rushing attempts and caught five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown. Israel Abanikanda had been elevated from the practice squad for Week 1, and it was not yet clear how Goodson’s arrival would affect his status.
