The Dallas Cowboys have brought back quarterback Joe Milton III to their practice squad after he was initially released to make room for running back Emari Demercado. Milton went unclaimed during the waiver process and chose to return to the Cowboys, even with interest from other teams for their practice squads.

Dak Prescott, the star quarterback, shared his enthusiasm over Milton's return, noting the positive effect he has on the team's quarterback group. Prescott acknowledged Milton's development during the offseason and stressed the importance of helping him cope with the disappointment of losing the QB2 role he held in the previous season. "I thought he would’ve been picked up in the waivers or whatever it is.

Fortunate for us, we got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better," Prescott stated. He recognized Milton's potential frustration but encouraged him to channel that into further improvement.

Milton was originally selected in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024 before being traded to the Cowboys ahead of the 2025 season. His preseason performance showed notable progress, as he completed 29 of 43 passes for 378 yards, scoring three touchdowns without any interceptions.

This was a marked improvement from the previous season, where he played in four games with a 62.5% completion rate, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions.

With his return, Milton looks to build on his preseason success and take advantage of the competitive atmosphere for his growth as a quarterback. Prescott's guidance will be vital as Milton embarks on his third season with the Cowboys, aiming to make the most of his opportunity on the practice squad.
