The Houston Texans have finalized a trade to acquire wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. In exchange, the Texans provided a seventh-round draft pick along with safety Jayden Reed. This move comes after the injury of second-year wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who sustained a torn ACL during practice.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans discussed the significance of the trade following a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. He emphasized that Boutte is a valuable addition, especially with Higgins sidelined. "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," Ryans remarked, noting Boutte's prior experience against the Texans and his playmaking ability.
Boutte, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has shown reliable performance during his tenure with the Patriots. In the 2025 season, he achieved 33 catches for 551 yards and six touchdowns, which played a role in the Patriots reaching the Super Bowl.
This season marked his second straight year with more than 30 receptions and 500 receiving yards, while also increasing his touchdown total from the previous year.
The Texans aim to replace Higgins' impact with Boutte, who is anticipated to work alongside Nico Collins as a wide receiver capable of making impactful downfield plays. Ryans expressed hope for Boutte's growth, highlighting his youth and potential in a contract year. Details on how Boutte will fit into the Texans' system remain to be seen.
