Jared Nuness, a former assistant coach for Baylor's basketball team, has been handed a two-year show cause penalty by the NCAA due to violations involving sports betting. The NCAA's investigation found that Nuness participated in impermissible sports betting activities during his time at Baylor. From December 29, 2020, to November 28, 2025, he reportedly placed around 3,400 bets, amounting to approximately $38,000 on professional sports. Furthermore, he permitted his son to utilize his betting accounts, which led to three bets totaling $170 on college competitions, although none involved Baylor.
Nuness accepted full responsibility for these infractions, which the NCAA categorized as Level II violations. The organization emphasizes strict regulations regarding betting by personnel to uphold the integrity of college sports. This incident underscores ongoing concerns about sports betting in collegiate athletics, as Nuness is not the first to face repercussions for similar actions.
