The Houston Texans have bolstered their roster by trading for wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. In return, the Texans sent safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round pick in the 2028 NFL Draft to New England.
Boutte, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, is joining the Texans as they aim to reclaim the AFC South title from the Jacksonville Jaguars. This trade follows an injury to Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn ACL during a joint practice with the Raiders on August 19, sidelining him for the season.
Higgins had a strong rookie season, recording 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns, but will now focus on recovery. The Texans sought additional depth at wide receiver, particularly behind Pro Bowler Nico Collins.
During his tenure with the Patriots, Boutte played in 29 games over two seasons, achieving over 500 receiving yards each year. He recorded three touchdown catches in 2024 and six in 2025, contributing to the Patriots' AFC title and Super Bowl 60 appearance. However, his role decreased this offseason with the addition of AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs to the Patriots' roster.
