TCU has dismissed safety Jacob Fields from its football team just under two weeks before the season opener against North Carolina. This decision comes after a reported physical confrontation with a teammate that occurred on August 13, as detailed in the TCU crime and fire log.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the incident has been classified as aggravated assault. Sources indicate that Fields was involved in a fight with an offensive player and had previously expressed concerns about being targeted by teammates through insults and threats, including being spat on.

Fields had transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason and was anticipated to play as the starting free safety.

He was recognized in 2025 as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Conference USA, having played all 12 games for Louisiana Tech, where he led the team with 92 tackles, recorded three interceptions—two of which were returned for touchdowns—and contributed 2.5 tackles for loss along with five pass breakups last season. No additional information regarding the incident or its consequences has been released.
