DeMarvion Overshown will handle much of the Dallas Cowboys’ responsibility for relaying defensive calls through the communication helmet, coach Brian Schottenheimer said. Schottenheimer said other players are prepared to take over when different defensive packages require a change.

Dallas signed Israel Abanikanda from its practice squad after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury requiring surgery. Abanikanda is expected to become the Cowboys’ third running back. Davis had been behind Javonte Williams during training camp while competing with Jaydon Blue, whom Dallas waived at the end of the preseason.

The Cowboys then claimed Emari Demercado from Kansas City, and he is set to work behind Williams against the New York Giants. Fullback Hunter Luepke remains on the roster.

A projection for the game put the over-under at 48.5 points. Nick Harris picked Dallas to win and predicted the matchup would stay below that total, citing the Cowboys’ experience, opening week and possible weather conditions.

Dallas is also considering offensive-line options, according to the source. Veteran tackle D.J. Humphries became available after Washington released him.

A separate report said Ryan Flournoy’s contract includes a $1.5 million base salary, a $500,000 roster bonus and $1.25 million in remaining signing-bonus proration. Trading him before the bonus is paid could save about $2 million against the salary cap, while a strong 2026 season could raise his trade value. George Pickens is playing under the franchise tag.
