George Odum has received his second practice squad elevation of the season, with the Houston Texans adding the veteran safety and special teams player for their game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Odum, who is in his ninth NFL season, previously played for the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers and earned one All-Pro honor with each team. Career totals in the report include 205 tackles, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Elsewhere, he was listed with 209 tackles and 12 starts in 109 games, alongside the same totals for interceptions, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries.
Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 reported Sept. 19 that Odum was returning after playing 71% of Houston’s special teams snaps against the Buffalo Bills and making one tackle in a 36-31 loss. Caleb Bullock and Reed Blankenship are healthy, but Houston is using Odum for special teams. Coach DeMeco Ryans previously praised his preseason playmaking ability.
Pro Football Focus ranked Odum 26th among 29 Texans special teams players against Buffalo, while noting that its overall grade does not show performance in each phase. Houston can elevate him once more under the current arrangement. After Cincinnati, the Texans are scheduled to play the Colts in Week 3, potentially requiring a 53-man roster addition or another option for Odum.
