TCU is on the lookout for a new starting quarterback following the unexpected transfer of Josh Hoover to Indiana, the reigning national champions. Hoover's exit comes after a regular season where TCU achieved an 8-4 record, a season that initially raised expectations for a strong push toward the Big 12 championship and potential NFL draft opportunities.

Before Hoover's announcement, TCU's personnel team had already begun compiling a list of quarterback prospects, not foreseeing his departure. General manager Ryan Dorchester indicated that Hoover was considered a key player for the upcoming season, and there was no indication he would leave Fort Worth. However, the team had been scouting quarterbacks as a precaution in case he decided to pursue the NFL draft.

The Horned Frogs are specifically looking for an upperclassman with one year of eligibility left, as they consider high school signee Adam Schobel to be their long-term solution at quarterback. Following Hoover's confirmed transfer, TCU quickly signed Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who had a successful two seasons at Harvard.

Dorchester first became aware of Craig while reviewing film of a former Harvard receiver. He described Craig as efficient and decisive, possessing a strong arm. As TCU's search for potential quarterbacks expanded, Craig remained a primary target.

Hoover's transfer was communicated to head coach Sonny Dykes on December 17, shortly after TCU's offensive coordinator accepted a position at South Carolina. The swift recruitment of Craig was facilitated by Dorchester's connection with Craig's agent, highlighting TCU's ability to adapt to Hoover's unexpected departure as they prepare for the upcoming season.
