TCU has reinstated media credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, resolving a conflict that began after the newspaper's reporting on a locker room incident. The university announced the restoration of access on September 4, citing productive discussions that led to a resolution. TCU expressed respect for the Star-Telegram as an independent news outlet and indicated a desire to move forward with the upcoming season.

Jim Barnes, a representative from TCU, confirmed on social media that reporter Steven Johnson and his team have regained their full media standing.

The conflict originated from a report by Johnson on August 18, which detailed rising tensions in the locker room and claimed coaches failed to address the situation adequately. The article also mentioned that head coach Sonny Dykes was not aware of the severity of the issues among players.

Following the report, TCU officials stated that the revocation of credentials was linked to threats against sophomore receiver Dozie Ezukanma, who had been punched by Jacob Fields. Ezukanma's identity was not disclosed in the report until he revealed it in a social media video.

The incident in question occurred on August 13, when Ezukanma alleged in an Instagram video that Fields punched him, causing him to lose consciousness. A TCU staff member reported the incident to campus police the next day. Official reports indicated that Fields was dismissed from the team and faced charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

He surrendered to Tarrant County police on August 30 and was later released on a $50,000 bond. During the time his access was revoked, Johnson covered TCU's season opener in Dublin, Ireland, from the stands instead of the press box.
