The Houston Texans have made a trade to acquire wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. Boutte confirmed the deal on social media prior to any official announcements from either team. Reports suggest that the Texans sent safety Jaylen Reed along with a seventh-round draft selection for 2028 to New England in return for Boutte.
This trade follows the injury of Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn ACL during a joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. Higgins was anticipated to play a significant role alongside star receiver Nico Collins, having recorded 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns in his rookie season.
Kayshon Boutte, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, had a solid performance last season with 33 catches for 551 yards and six touchdowns. The Patriots had an excess of wide receivers after acquiring A.J. Brown in June and signing Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million contract in March.
In addition to Boutte, the Texans also signed veteran receivers Zay Jones and Sterling Shepard over the weekend as they aim to address the gap left by Higgins' injury. Details regarding the Texans' plans for the upcoming season remain unclear.
