The Houston Texans have officially named Justin Watson as a starter after second-year wide receiver Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL, which will end his season. Watson, a three-time Super Bowl champion, is set to begin his second year with the Texans following a debut season affected by injuries.
His new position on the depth chart has attracted significant attention, especially as he will likely play alongside two-time Pro Bowler Nico Collins. Jeremy Beadling from Texans Today noted that while Watson's elevation may not be entirely unexpected, it raises questions about his chances of making the final 53-man roster.
Although Watson was on the roster last year, he is now considered to be at risk of being cut, particularly after the Texans traded for Kayshon Boutte.
As the team gears up for their last preseason game against the Panthers, Watson's ability to perform will be crucial. His height of 6-foot-2 may provide him an edge over Boutte, who is 5-foot-11, but Watson will need to show consistent productivity and stay healthy to secure his position on the team.
The Texans are also looking forward to Higgins' potential return in 2027 and are hoping to have Tank Dell back soon, although his status is currently uncertain.
