The Houston Texans have received encouraging news about offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks because of a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This information comes after a concerning incident during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, while Smith's injury is a concern, it is not deemed severe and should not lead to a long-term absence. Smith, who signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the Texans in the offseason, was expected to take over as the starting right tackle. However, his injury raises questions about the team's offensive line stability.
ESPN's Adam Schefter mentioned that Smith might be out for a few weeks, which is preferable to more serious injuries. The Texans may not need to rush his return, as former Pro Bowl player Trent Brown is currently starting at right tackle, and Blake Fisher has shown promise this preseason.
Further updates on Smith's condition and the Texans' offensive line are expected as the season nears.
