The Houston Texans have added defensive end Chris Braswell to their practice squad. Braswell was recently let go by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he spent two seasons. A former five-star recruit, he played at Alabama, achieving eight sacks and ten tackles for loss during his time there.
He stepped in as the Jack linebacker following Will Anderson Jr.'s departure, ranking second on the team in sacks behind Dallas Turner, who was selected 17th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Despite his promising college career, Braswell faced challenges in the NFL. Drafted in the second round by Tampa Bay, he struggled to secure a starting role, managing only two and a half sacks across two seasons. His release followed a preseason where he missed time and was outperformed by other players.
Now in Houston, Braswell reunites with former Alabama teammate Will Anderson Jr. and Logan Hall, who also played with the Buccaneers. He is expected to focus on adapting to the Texans' 4-3 defensive scheme, which will emphasize edge-setting and pass rushing.
This signing is viewed as a strategic move to enhance the team’s defensive depth, with Braswell positioned as a backup behind Dominique Robinson, Sebastian Harsh, and Jadeveon Clowney on the depth chart.
