Dare Ogunbowale is returning to the Houston Texans’ 53-man roster before Week 4, shortly after spending time with the Las Vegas Raiders. Houston is preparing to host the Dallas Cowboys, and Ogunbowale’s return expands the running back group to four players.
David Montgomery and Woody Marks are expected to handle most of the offensive snaps, while British Brooks could remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly order. His offensive role is not expected to immediately change the team’s primary options. Ogunbowale played for Houston from 2022 through 2025, appearing in more than 60 games and recording 91 carries for 295 yards and three touchdowns.
The report did not identify the reason for the signing. It could relate to a potential injury in the position group, although player injury information for Week 4 was not expected until after Wednesday’s practice. Houston also may have wanted an experienced depth player who can help on special teams.
Ogunbowale was a team captain last season and logged more than 1,000 special-teams snaps across his four previous seasons with the Texans. Head coach DeMeco Ryans has repeatedly praised him, and Sports Illustrated reported that the move adds leadership and special-teams experience even if his offensive role remains limited.
