The Houston Texans have made roster changes following injuries sustained in their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Graham Mertz has been added to the Reserve/Injured list due to a knee injury that has been confirmed as season-ending by an MRI.
Rookie running back Joshua Pitsenberger has also been placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury near the end of the game.
Mertz's injury happened just before halftime, compounding the Texans' challenges as they were already managing several injuries prior to the game. Pitsenberger's injury occurred shortly before the contest concluded.
In addition to Mertz and Pitsenberger, the Texans' injury report includes Ja'Marcus Ingram, who has a shoulder issue, Collin Wright with a soft tissue strain, and Jake Hansen, who is dealing with an ankle injury. Despite these setbacks, the Texans have largely kept their starting lineup unchanged, aside from linebacker E.J. Speed, who was injured earlier in the offseason.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans and his coaching staff will closely assess their options as they prepare for further roster changes during training camp. The team is focused on maintaining depth and performance as they progress through the preseason. More updates on roster moves are expected as the Texans evaluate the impact of these injuries on their upcoming games.
