Cole Hutson can pursue a return to the Texas Longhorns this season after Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin’s 53rd District Court issued a temporary injunction. The ruling was reported by sports.yahoo.com, which credited Chip Brown of Horns247.
Hutson had been declared ineligible before Texas faced Ohio State in Week 2. Coach Steve Sarkisian said Sept. 7 that an NCAA issue, separate from the court matter, was still being handled. The decision came shortly before Texas’ SEC opener at Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, but it remains unknown whether Hutson will be available.
Sarkisian was scheduled to speak with local media Thursday and could offer an update.
Texas has continued to get solid performances from its two guard spots. Dylan Sikorski, a transfer from Oregon State, has become the starter at left guard, while Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore did not take the job despite being expected to do so during fall camp.
Quarterback Arch Manning said during camp that Hutson’s return to the team caught him off guard, though he was pleased to have him back. Offensive guard Brandon Baker said Hutson had been an influential teammate and leader and had performed well during camp.
