Heat Breaks with Tropical System

Little Elm’s run of 100-degree days is coming to an end as Tropical Storm Edouard tracks toward the Texas-Louisiana border. According to National Hurricane Center guidance reported by Fox 4, the storm is expected to make landfall in Texas today with sustained winds near 40 mph and possible strengthening before it comes ashore.

As Edouard turns west-northwest and weakens while approaching Central Texas, its influence will finally lower temperatures here.

Current conditions show an air temperature of 88F with a feels-like of 90F. The sky is clear, relative humidity sits at 49%, and the dew point is 66F. Winds are light at 6 mph with gusts to 9 mph. However, heat index values will remain high today, reaching as high as 104.

Forecast and Alerts

Today, Little Elm will see a high near 101F before conditions shift. There is a slight chance of rain showers between 1pm and 4pm, followed by a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms later. The low tonight will be near 79F, with temperatures rising to around 82 overnight. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms persists tonight under mostly clear skies.

Tomorrow brings further relief from the peak heat, with a high near 96F. There is a slight chance of rain showers before 7am, followed by a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. The sky will be sunny with an east southeast wind of 5 to 10 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph. The low tomorrow night will be near 78F.

An Air Quality Alert is currently active for the area. While Edouard is expected to bring rain chances elsewhere in the state Tuesday evening and through midweek, the heaviest rain remains over Southeast Texas. This system is forecast to break the recent run of 100-degree days across the region.

Safety Reminders

With heat index values remaining high today and tonight, residents should hydrate frequently and limit midday exertion. As humidity rises with the approaching storm, check on elderly neighbors or those without air conditioning. Be prepared for potential power fluctuations if thunderstorms develop.
