Trammell’s three-run homer sends Astros past Blue Jays, 7-2

Trammell turned a tied game in the bottom of the fifth inning with the only home run of the game, helping the Houston Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, at Daikin Park.

After Toronto had pulled even in the top of the fifth, Houston answered with four runs in the bottom half. Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring Alvarez and moving Walker to second. Trammell followed with a homer to right, measured at 388 feet, scoring Walker and Altuve for a 6-2 Astros lead.

How the runs developed

Houston opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth. Diaz singled to left, scoring Altuve and moving Trammell to second. Smith then singled to left, and Trammell scored on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez, with Smith safe at second and Diaz safe at third on the error.

Toronto tied it in the top of the fifth. Straw tripled to center, scoring Giménez, then scored on a wild pitch by Wesneski to make it 2-2. Houston’s response in the bottom of the inning produced the decisive margin, and the Astros added one more run in the bottom of the seventh when Altuve singled to center, scoring Walker.

Wesneski earns the win

Hayden Wesneski earned the win for Houston, improving to 2-0. He pitched six innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts.

Bennett Sousa pitched one scoreless inning with no hits or walks and one strikeout. Enyel De Los Santos worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hit with no walks and one strikeout.

Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto, falling to 1-1. He allowed seven hits and six earned runs in three innings, with four walks and three strikeouts. Trey Yesavage pitched two hitless, scoreless innings with one walk, while Braydon Fisher, Brendon Little and Mason Fluharty also pitched for Toronto.

Records

The announced attendance was 30,450. With the win, the Astros improved to 59-56. The Blue Jays fell to 53-61.
