Toronto builds the cushion
Toronto’s key separation came in the fourth inning, when Sánchez singled to left and Okamoto scored on an error to make it 2-0. On the same play, Sánchez was safe at second on a throwing error by left fielder Trammell, and Springer was safe at third on an error.
Clement followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Springer and giving the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead. That two-run inning provided the difference in Toronto’s 3-1 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Daikin Park.
Kirk had opened the scoring in the second inning with the game’s only home run, a 373-foot drive to left center that put the Blue Jays ahead 1-0.
Astros get one back
Houston cut into the deficit in the sixth inning. Peña singled to center, bringing in Diaz, with Peña moving to second and Smith to third on the play. That made it 3-1, but the Astros did not add another run.
The Blue Jays’ scoring came on three separate plays: Kirk’s homer in the second, Sánchez’s fourth-inning single that produced a run with help from the error, and Clement’s sacrifice fly. Houston’s lone run came on Peña’s single.
