LITTLE ELM, Texas — The Town of Little Elm began targeted mosquito spraying Monday night and will continue Tuesday night after West Nile virus was detected in local mosquito samples, town officials announced.
The spraying operations are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. each night, covering areas where positive West Nile virus samples were identified. The treatment is being performed by a contracted pest control service.
The town issued a West Nile virus update on June 26 notifying residents of the positive samples and the planned spraying schedule. Heavy rains across North Texas in recent weeks have created favorable breeding conditions for mosquitoes, prompting multiple cities across the region to increase surveillance and treatment efforts.
Residents are advised to take precautions against mosquito bites, including using EPA-approved insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors during dusk and dawn, and eliminating standing water around homes where mosquitoes breed.
