A prolonged law enforcement incident in a Providence Village subdivision has kept residents on edge as negotiations continue into Tuesday afternoon. The situation began late Monday night when a man contacted 911 to report that he was detaining two women inside his residence and threatened to kill them if officers approached.

Aubrey Police Chief Richard Brooks stated that responding officers found evidence of a struggle, including a broken window, before establishing a perimeter. Initial attempts to communicate with the suspect failed, prompting the department to request assistance from neighboring agencies and activate special operations teams.

A significant development occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday when a juvenile girl was allowed to leave the home. Investigators noted that she provided critical details about the interior of the house, which led officials to escalate their response. This included the deployment of SWAT teams and the involvement of federal negotiators from the FBI hostage negotiation team.

Throughout the night and into the day, families in the area were ordered to shelter in place. Residents described a tense atmosphere as they watched heavy police activity unfold. Raishaun Stadeker, a neighbor who moved to the community seven months ago, said she remained awake due to fear, noting the visible presence of armed officers.

Stadeker, a single parent, expressed concern for her two children and other families in the area. She noted that many neighbors are older and worried about the potential for violence. The proximity of the incident to other communities was noted, with Aubrey located approximately 10 miles north of Little Elm.

By 3 p.m. Tuesday, the standoff remained ongoing. Police brought in additional law enforcement support and kept medical personnel on standby at the scene. Chief Brooks emphasized that the primary goal remains a peaceful resolution.

The Aubrey Independent School District monitored the situation and granted excused absences to students whose families were affected by the shelter-in-place order. The district encouraged those impacted to stay home. Further details regarding the suspect's identity or the final outcome of the negotiations were not yet clear.
