Weston McKennie, a 27-year-old midfielder for the U.S. Men's National Team, is receiving support from his family in Little Elm during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His brother, John McKennie, works as a firefighter in Grand Prairie and produced a video message for NBC 5 to celebrate Weston's achievements.
John McKennie, who drives an engine at Station 10 on the South side of Grand Prairie, noted that his brother follows their father’s legacy of service, as their dad was in the military. Weston, born in Washington but claiming Dallas as home due to his formative years there, previously played for the FC Dallas Youth Academy before becoming the first American to join the Italian club Juventus.
The U.S. team recently secured a 4-1 victory over Paraguay, with an own goal resulting from a play involving McKennie and striker Christian Pulisic in the seventh minute. The team is scheduled to play Australia at Seattle Stadium on Friday, June 19, at 2 p.m. CT.
