Von Miller has officially joined the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year contract, a move that comes as the team seeks to revamp its defense. This signing follows Miller's expressed interest in the Cowboys throughout the offseason. The defense will feature around six new starters along with a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer praised Miller's football intellect and quick speed, indicating that while he may not play every down, his presence will significantly improve the team's defensive capabilities. Schottenheimer highlighted Miller's understanding of the game, stating, "He understands the game; the football intellect is top tier."
In 2025, Miller played 17 games for the Washington Commanders, recording nine sacks. He is expected to have a similar role in Dallas, likely participating in critical situations like third downs. Miller, who was drafted second overall in 2011, has earned multiple accolades throughout his career, including two Super Bowl titles and the Super Bowl MVP award.
He currently holds the record for the most sacks among active players, totaling 138.5, and is tied with Cowboys legend DeMarcus Ware for 13th all-time. Miller is close to breaking into the top 10 with just 3.5 more sacks this season.
