The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints have been fined $500,000 each due to a brawl during their recent joint practice. The NFL has highlighted the importance of sportsmanship during such practices, where unsportsmanlike conduct can result in injuries.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed his concern regarding the fines and plans to appeal the decision. He remarked that the incidents, including players removing helmets and engaging in fights, do not represent the teams or the league positively. "That's pretty harsh, I mean, pretty stiff," Jones stated, acknowledging the league's position on the matter.
Should the fines remain in place, Jones indicated he would also penalize the players involved in the altercations. Notable incidents included linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku ripping off the helmet of Saints offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga and punching offensive lineman Erik McCoy.
Saints rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner was also involved in several confrontations, including a physical altercation with Cowboys cornerback Caelan Carson and executing a German suplex on Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson.
Details regarding the appeal process and any potential player fines have not yet been disclosed.
