Enzo Panozzo received his first Atlantic Coast Conference weekly award after SMU’s 1-0 win over NC State. The senior captain shares the co-defensive player of the week honor with Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly, according to an announcement from the conference Tuesday and a report from SMU Athletics.
Panozzo, who is from Sarasota, Florida, scored the only goal in SMU’s ACC home opener. He also helped lead a defense that limited NC State to eight shots, with two on target. The result gave the Mustangs their fifth shutout of the season.
The recognition is SMU’s second conference weekly award this season. Following the victory, SMU moved to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The Mustangs have a 7-0-1 overall record and are 2-0-0 in ACC play. Their next conference match is scheduled for Sunday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
