Nico Collins was missing from the portion of Houston’s Wednesday practice open to reporters, his third consecutive absence. The Texans receiver is dealing with a Grade 1 hamstring strain suffered before the team’s Week 2 game against Cincinnati, which he missed. His status for the Colts game remains unclear, and he could instead return in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Dalton Schultz, Trent Brown, Ed Ingram and Jadeveon Clowney also were not seen during the media-access period. Schultz is a tight end, Brown and Ingram are offensive linemen, and Clowney is an edge rusher. No additional information about those players’ statuses was provided.
Houston is 0-2 entering Week 3. Without Collins against Cincinnati, Schultz recorded 12 catches and 140 yards, while Xavier Hutchinson, Kayshon Boutte and Jaylin Noel totaled seven receptions. No Texans wide receiver had more than three catches or 40 yards in that game.
If Collins remains unavailable, those three receivers would be expected to take on larger roles, with offensive coordinator Nick Caley preparing for another game without Houston’s top wideout.
