Duran’s ninth-inning double sends Rangers past Giants, 5-4

Duran decides it late

Duran’s ground-rule double in the bottom of the ninth scored Burger and moved Seager to third, giving the Texas Rangers a 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Globe Life Field.

Duran drove in four of Texas’ five runs with three run-scoring hits. His final one came after San Francisco tied the game in the top of the ninth, and it capped a back-and-forth finish.

Rangers build the first lead

Texas went ahead in the bottom of the first. Nimmo doubled to right, scoring Pederson and sending Seager to third for a 1-0 lead. Duran followed with a single to right that scored Seager and moved Nimmo to third, making it 2-0.

San Francisco pulled even in the top of the seventh on the game’s only home run. Basabe homered to left, a 377-foot drive that scored Gilbert and tied it at 2.

The Rangers moved back in front in the bottom of the eighth. Duran doubled to right, bringing in Langford and Seager while Nimmo advanced to third, and Texas led 4-2.

San Francisco answered in the top of the ninth. Eldridge singled to right, scoring Gilbert and McCray to tie the game at 4 before Duran delivered the final run in the bottom half.

Pitching and records

MacKenzie Gore gave Texas six innings with three hits, no earned runs, three walks and four strikeouts. Chase Silseth allowed two earned runs on one hit and one walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Robby Ahlstrom pitched one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Peyton Gray added one-third of an inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout.

Jacob Latz allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk in one inning, struck out one and earned the win, improving to 3-1 while also being charged with his third blown save.

For San Francisco, Blade Tidwell allowed two earned runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts in five innings. Dylan Smith took the loss, falling to 0-4, after giving up one earned run on two hits and one walk with one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.

Attendance was 26,959. Texas is 56-58, and San Francisco is 48-66.
