The U.S. Postal Service has announced plans to increase postage rates this summer, pending approval from federal regulators. If authorized, the price of a First-Class Forever stamp would increase from 78 cents to 82 cents, effective July 12. Additionally, the cost of a metered one-ounce letter would rise from 74 cents to 78 cents, while domestic postcards would see a jump from 61 cents to 65 cents. For international mail, postcards and one-ounce letters would increase from $1.70 to $1.75. The fee for each extra ounce on a single-piece letter will stay at 29 cents.
The Postal Service cites a severe financial crisis and rising operational costs as the reasons for these increases. It operates without tax funding and relies on postage sales and services for its financial needs. The proposed price adjustments are part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the agency's finances through a long-term restructuring plan. However, these new rates are not yet finalized and require review by the Postal Regulatory Commission before implementation.
Little Elm residents and businesses would be affected by these higher rates in July, along with mailers across the country.
