LITTLE ELM, Texas — The Town of Little Elm will begin targeted mosquito spraying operations tonight after two mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile Virus in the community.

Spraying is scheduled for Monday, June 29, and Tuesday, June 30, beginning at 9 p.m. each night, weather permitting. The operations will use an ultra-low volume mist application of Aqua Perm-X UL 3-30, an EPA-registered product applied by a licensed mosquito control contractor.

The positive samples were collected near 2612 Round Up Trail and 1611 Lago Vista Drive through the town's ongoing mosquito surveillance program. Town officials are urging residents in spraying areas to remain indoors, bring pets inside and close windows and doors during the application.

Residents are also encouraged to cover outdoor items including pet food, water bowls and children's toys before spraying begins each evening.

Town health officials continue to emphasize the "Four Ds" of mosquito prevention: use insect repellent containing DEET, dress in long sleeves and pants during peak mosquito hours, drain standing water from containers around homes, and limit outdoor activity at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.

The town will continue monitoring mosquito activity and will take additional control measures as needed to protect public health. More information is available at littleelm.gov/mosquitoes.
