ARLINGTON, Texas - Brandon Nimmo's night was a single and a run scored, the middle piece of a sixth inning that stretched a one-run lead into something Houston could not ignore on the scoreboard.
The Rangers right fielder went 1-for-4 with a run and two strikeouts in Texas' 6-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday at Globe Life Field, per ESPN's box. He scored when Danny Jansen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth, after Wyatt Langford's RBI double had already plated Josh Jung and sent Nimmo to third.
The Associated Press described Langford's ball landing when Myles Straw pulled up between himself and the wall - the swing that opened the flood.
One hit, one important trip home
Nimmo did not drive in a run. He reached, advanced, and scored while Texas pushed three across in the sixth to make it 6-1 before Evan Carter's sacrifice fly finished the frame. Jung's first-inning solo homer, his 11th, and a two-run second built without a hit had already put Texas ahead.
Nimmo's contribution was the quieter kind: a single in the box and a run in the sixth when the lineup finally strung traffic together.
Texas went only 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, ESPN's box shows. Nights like that still produce six runs when free bases and sacrifice flies cooperate.
West lead, bullpen length
Cal Quantrill exited after 1 1/3 innings with right lat tightness and will have an MRI on Sunday; Skip Schumaker said he had no update, the AP reported. Jordan Montgomery earned the win with 3 2/3 hitless innings, his first victory since Aug. 14, 2024. Nathan Eovaldi, Robert Garcia, Chase Silseth and Jacob Latz followed.
Toronto managed six hits after Quantrill left and got a pinch-hit homer from Davis Schneider.
